How Are You Spending Your Inheritance?

Our country is filled with Financial Planners who make it their sole profession to provide wisdom and guidance to their clients, in hopes of encouraging them to become perceptive saving strategists. With the unprecedented uncertainties of the stock market and the global economy being so volatile these days, people are scrambling to find safe sources to invest their money towards their future retirement needs.

Now, let me go on record here and tell you, that I’m a firm believe in being a good steward with all of the resources God has entrusted to us. Having a qualified financial advisor to assist you with your financial planning supports what God’s Word teaches: “There is wisdom in counsel.”

However, with the plethora of unpredictable financial concerns that plague our Nation, it’s become evident, that the majority of professed Christians put forth much more energy and focus towards their financial interests than their faith inheritance. I believe now more than ever, Christ Jesus is calling His followers to shift their energies from being perceptive saving strategists, to becoming prudent spiritual spenders.

In Paul’s letter to the church at Ephesus, we discover the facts of our inheritance:

“Further more, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan… And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him… When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. ” Eph. 1:11,14; 3:14-16

So, exactly what part of the inheritance can we have right now today?

Since Pentecost, the Holy Spirit has functioned as the believer’s witness, seal and pledge to the Father and furthermore, his indwelling presence in each believer affords us his unlimited resources of: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Further, we have the Holy Spirit’s continual ministry of guiding us so we might live holy lives, while convicting us of sin, that we would confess and repent to be fully restored for the Lord’s use.

I must tell you, when I reflect on the resources available to me each day… the size of the spiritual checking account… well, there’s just no excuse to not spend like there’s no tomorrow! For that matter, who’s to say there will be a tomorrow?

Let me tell you, the sooner we get to making withdraws from our inheritance the more rapidly our lives will manifest our true spiritual wealth. Oh, how rich we are in Christ Jesus and how dearly he desires to share his wealth with us this very day. Think of how much more effective we’d become in ministering to those around us, knowing that we can never deplete or exhaust our riches in Christ.

Lord, help us to fully apprehend the abundance of our inheritance, which we have in you. And move us to motivated and activated to spend it like there’s no tomorrow! Amen!
